An Indonesian products, Tempeh is compressed soy bean cakes, created by fermenting soy beans and compressing these into blocks.

Tempeh is a meatless source of vegetarian protein. It can be baked, fried, pan-seared. Cooked very much like firm tofu. It has very little flavor of it's own and soaks flavor very well. Tempeh can be marinated and seared just like Tofu. It gets soft and little spongy upon cooking.

Tempeh works well in vegetarian stir-fries, kabobs or meat-replacement in curries.

You can find plain Tempeh or pre-marinated tempeh in Tofu/yogurt section of most grocery stores.
