Cinco de Mayo (English translates to "fifth of May"), also known as the Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, is a official holiday in Mexico (in State of Puebla, where the Battle took place). The day is celebrated in Mexico, especially in Puebla, with parades and speeches. In some cities there are re-enactments of the Battle of Puebla. Due to large Mexican-American population, Cinco de Mayo has also become a festive holiday, initially in few parts of the United States and eventually it expanded across the United States. In United States, celebrations are often extended beyond actual day, usually spans entire week, with parades and festivals that include music, dancing, and food.

My hometown, San Diego being so close to Mexico, has abundant Mexican influence. We have grand ceremonies and activities whole week starting fifth of May for Cinco De Mayo in San Diego, downtown and all neighborhood places. Mexican food is abundant during this week, all over the county. From tacos to enchiladas, zesty, flavorful and delicious Mexican cuisine is at its full boom during this week. All Mexican restaurants run “Cinco De Mayo” specials. .
