Cardamom and Fennel Tea
Masala Chai
Growing up, I don’t remember a morning (not even a single morning) waking up without smelling my mom’s cardamom and fennel tea boiling on stove top and filling whole house with perfume of cardamom, fennel and strong black tea. Till today, without a cup of this tea, feels like day has not started yet.
Cardamom and Fennel Tea

Ingredients
- 2-3 Cardamom (cardamom pods, slightly crushed or use 1/2 tsp cardamom powder)
- 1 tsp Sugar (Optional)
- 2 tsp Darjeeling Tea (Or any strong black tea like Society Tea or 2 tea bags)
- 2 Cup Water
- 1/4 to 1/2 Cup Milk (Preferably Whole Fat milk)
- 1/2 tsp Fennel Seeds
Directions
-
1. In a sauce pan, bring water to a rolling boil. Add tea, fennel & cardamom and simmer for 6-7 minutes till tea gives nice dark black color to the water and also water has reduced from original 2 cup to about 1 and 1/2 cup.
-
2. Now add milk and continue simmering for 1 more minute. Remove from heat, strain with a tea strainer and serve with your choice of breakfast bread. Enjoy!!
