Low Calorie Kiwi and Cilantro Chutney

View Recipe

Sharing an easy cilantro and kiwi fruit condiment which is healthy, flavorful and ready in just 5 minutes. This low calorie, uncooked chutney has fresh and cooling herb cilantro and super fruit kiwi. I shared a few mint and coriander (cilantro) leave chutneys with you in past but this one is my favorite. I especially love the sweet and tang of kiwi fruits and lemon with fragrant cilantro. You can make this chutney in just 5 minutes and it tastes great with steamed rice. Since there is no cooking needed, we often consume this chutney in two-three days. Longer than that, it will loose its freshness and flavor.

India is land of chutneys, pickles and preserves. In peak season, every household preserves jars of fresh fruits and many raw vegetables in form of chutneys and pickles. Most of chutneys are sweetened and cooked to increase their shelf life. Pickles are mostly preserved in oil for the same reason. A well preserved pickle can stay good for more than 5 years. No kidding, 2 years back I preserved few pound lemons in oil and spices. We still enjoy them once in a while with Indian meal.

Even though most chutneys are cooked, sweetened, and have concentrated flavor. Few chutneys are uncooked, have no added sugar and are eaten with daily meals. This cilantro chutney is one of uncooked version. Often these low calorie chutneys are for day to day meals.

I started making Cilantro Tomato chutney a lot after my marriage since Vishal is very used to eating that at his home. He loves cilantro chutney. However, I developed taste for cilantro chutneys only after marriage, growing up I only had mint based chutneys. So these days I often try and match ingredients to make variety of cilantro chutneys for Vishal which he loves and will suit my taste buds too.

This kiwi chutney was invented accidental but we both liked it so much that now I make it very often. I was out of tomatoes and few kiwi fruits were in refrigerator. I often keep stock of kiwi at home. Its sweet and sour taste is great in smoothies and it has good dose of nutrients to support immune health and fiber to help digestive health. Whenever we make smoothies, a few kiwis go in or I just slice a few in salads. I decided to use kiwi instead of tomato for cilantro chutney  and it turned out really good.

Kiwi Cilantro Chutney is healthy way to include some super fruit like kiwi and fresh herb like cilantro in meal. You can serve this chutney on the side with rice or pilaf Or pour it over roasted vegetables. I even mix it in steamed quinoa with some silvered almonds for healthy and delicious lite lunch.

So glad to share me delicious finding with you. Try it and enjoy!!
